The Summit Primary Care Clinic was established in 1918. It was supported by clinical laboratory, X-Ray service, ultrasound and EKG services. A few years later Dental Clinic was added. The Lamphouse provides health education materials as well as some Spiritual guidance literature.

Accurate diagnosis depends on reliable lab work. The Summit Clinic operates an on-site clinical laboratory that performs essential diagnostic testing .
Tests available:
Complete blood counts (CBC)
Malaria rapid diagnostic tests
Urinalysis
HIV testing
Blood glucose and cholesterol screening
Tuberculosis screening
Pregnancy testing
Having this lab on-site means most results are available the same day — eliminating the need for patients to travel elsewhere and wait days for answers.
Service
DENTAL CLINIC
This clinic addresses the critical need for oral healthcare in the community by offering dental examinations, cleanings, extractions, fillings, and oral health education. In recent years, AdventHealth Global Missions funded a new dental chair and compressor for the clinic, significantly upgrading its capacity to serve patients. The clinic emphasizes preventive dental care and hygiene education, teaching both children and adults proper oral care practices to reduce long-term dental disease in the community.
CLINICAL LABORATORY
Offers HIV testing, counseling, prevention education, treatment, and ongoing support services. The clinic takes a balanced approach that combines medical treatment with research-informed care and preventive education to reduce stigma and transmission in the community. Patients receive antiretroviral therapy management, regular monitoring, and psychosocial support. The clinic also provides community education on HIV prevention strategies, helping to raise awareness and encourage regular testing among at-risk populations.
EKG SERVICES
The Summit Clinic is equipped with an EKG (electrocardiogram) machine to provide cardiac diagnostic services to patients. EKG testing records the electrical activity of the heart and is used to detect and evaluate a range of heart conditions, including arrhythmias, heart attacks, coronary artery disease, and other cardiac abnormalities. This service allows the clinic to screen for cardiovascular issues, monitor patients with known heart conditions, and make timely referrals for specialized cardiac care when needed. The availability of this diagnostic capability at the clinic is especially valuable in a setting where access to cardiology services in the broader community is limited
X-RAY SERVICES
- Based on the information available, The Summit Clinic envisions expanding its diagnostic imaging capabilities to include X-ray services, which would allow for on-site radiographic examinations and reduce the need for patient referrals to distant hospitals.
- Evaluation of pulmonary conditions including pneumonia, tuberculosis, bronchitis, and lung abnormalities.
- Essential given the high prevalence of respiratory infections in the community.
- Imaging of arms, legs, hands, and feet for fracture detection, dislocation assessment, and orthopedic evaluation. Critical for trauma cases and workplace/school injuries.
- Assessment of bowel obstruction, perforation, foreign body ingestion, and abdominal calcifications.
- Evaluation of spinal alignment, degenerative changes, fractures, and pelvic abnormalities.
- Full-mouth panoramic imaging for comprehensive dental assessment, impacted teeth detection, and oral surgery planning. Supports the Summit Dental Clinic.
PRIMARY CARE CLINIC
The cornerstone of the Summit Health Services, this clinic provides comprehensive general medical care to students, staff, and the surrounding community in Addis Ababa. Services include diagnosis and treatment of common illnesses, management of chronic conditions, preventive check-ups, and health screenings. The clinic is staffed by professional health officers and supported by medical mission teams from partners like AdventHealth, who bring additional expertise and resources during periodic visits. It serves as the first point of contact for all health concerns within the village and the broader local population.
ULTRASOUND
Thanks to a donation from AdventHealth, the Summit Clinic acquired an ultrasound machine that has significantly expanded its imaging and diagnostic capabilities. Ultrasound imaging allows the clinic's health professionals to visualize internal organs, tissues, and blood flow in real time — aiding in the diagnosis of abdominal conditions, gynecological issues, pregnancy monitoring, and soft tissue abnormalities. This non-invasive, radiation-free imaging tool has enhanced the clinic's ability to provide accurate diagnoses on-site, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances to larger hospitals for basic imaging services. The ultrasound machine has been a transformative addition to the clinic's diagnostic service line.
Our HEALTH ENVIRONMENT
There are many variations of professional health workers available, also our pharmacy have the necessary medications and supplies along with professional pharmacists, which don't look even slightly believable.
The EKG service at the Summit Clinic caught an irregular heartbeat I didn't even know I had. The staff were professional and thorough, and they referred me to a cardiologist in Addis before it became a serious problem. I am alive today because this clinic exists.
When my daughter fell and hurt her arm, I feared we would have to travel all the way to the city hospital. But the Summit Clinic took an X-ray right here, identified it was just a sprain, and treated her the same day. We saved time, money, and stress. This clinic is a blessing for our community.
